Training Need The private medical insurance provider runs a number of private medical insurance schemes that insure individuals for certain specified conditions. In managing these schemes, non medically trained staff are brought into day to day contact with medical terminology and are expected to have a working knowledge of terms, phrases and abbreviations outside of their profession. Specifically, staff in a variety of roles carry out day to day activities that bring them into contact with medical terminology. Claims Assessors are required to make decisions as to the validity of a customer’s claim and in so doing, are expected to have to deal with letters from medical specialists and various drug reports. Bill Assessors are also required to understand the nature of various operations and types of drugs that are being invoiced. Supporting these staff are the Coaches who are expected to be a point of referral for the more complicated or less frequent terms.
